About two or three weeks ago, I received a newsletter from a travel agency (that up until now I don’t know how I started subscribing to) with some irresistible Asia tour promo packages. They’re incredibly cheap considering airfare, tour and accommodation already included. As I was just getting excited to send an email about details of the promo, there was one requirement at the bottom of their digital brochure that has slightly got me annoyed – minimum of 2 pax!
For someone like me who frequently travels solo, sometimes by choice and sometimes because there really is no choice, this is really terribly annoying. I’m pretty sure there are profit-related reasons for devising such marketing strategy but whatever that is, these travel agencies are not responding to these statistics: (1)That there is a rise of solo sojourners (women in particular) all over the world and (2) independent women’s economic power when they travel solo. Seriously! Even if we’re travelling solo, it doesn’t mean that we don’t want to join groups too. Hello? Or that we don’t consider costs at all. A solo booker of their promo could just mean a +1 to their already existing booked groups so I can’t understand WHY, WHY, WHY won’t they accommodate me? I seriously can’t wrap my head around this. Lol.
When I was in Paris and staying in hostels, I met about four millennials like me who were also travelling solo. Statistics say Europe is the most popular destination for clients booking solo travel so that could be the case but it’s a fact: there is a growing market for us single women. So in behalf of all the fun, fierce and fearless single women I know, I plead these travel agencies to stop putting this requirement in your promos. JUST STOP IT!
On a different but related note, if there’s one type of travel that I won’t do alone – that would have to be an island sighting or beach-related trip. I know a close friend who’s done this but let’s just say each one to his own. 🙂 Call me vain or what but all those dieting I did for the beach will be wasted if I can’t get a single flattering bikini photo. Lol. And with that I’d like to thank my amazing visiting friend Luis for all these beautiful photos and videos in Kalanggaman. I posted the video again below too just ICYMI. Enjoy 😀
